BritBox and Omnifilm Entertainment Begin Production on Original Drama Series The Bletchley Circle: San Francisco with Returning Stars Julie Graham and Rachael Stirling and New Cast Leads Crystal Balint, Chanelle Peloso, Jennifer Spence, and Ben Cotton

Vancouver, BC – March 20, 2018 – BritBox, ITV Network, and Omnifilm Entertainment in association with The Bletchley Circle original producers World Productions announced today that cameras are rolling on the highly-anticipated new series The Bletchley Circle: San Francisco, which was announced at the BritBox TCA panel in January 2018. Worldwide distribution for the series is handled by Kew Media.

Set in 1956, three years following the events of The Bletchley Circle Season 2, Jean, played by Julie Graham (Shetland, Doc Martin), and Millie, played by Rachael Stirling (Detectorists, Churchill’s Secret) depart London for San Francisco to investigate the murder of a close friend. There they are joined by North American code-breakers Iris and Hailey who, like their British counterparts, find themselves undervalued and overlooked despite their indispensable contributions to the war effort. With renewed purpose, the code-breaking team will stay in San Francisco and continue to solve mysteries together in the Bay Area.

“It’s a thrilling new adventure for our much-beloved characters Jean and Millie, as they journey from a world still emerging from the rubble of war, to discover new horizons in America’s most iconic city,” said showrunner Michael MacLennan.  “We tell a story of reinvention — not just for two British women, but the women they meet and inspire.  In working together to solve various complex mysteries in San Francisco, they find justice for those who have been forgotten and ignored — while also carving out new futures for themselves.”

Joining Jean and Millie to form the core code-breaking team are Iris, a brilliant mathematician and jazz musician, played by Crystal Balint (The Good Doctor, Prison Break), and Hailey, a streetwise engineer with a secret, played by Chanelle Peloso (Zapped, Incredible Crew).  Jennifer Spence (You Me Her, Travelers) as fellow code-breaker Olivia Mori, a gifted analyst of human behaviour, joins the cast alongside Ben Cotton (The X-Files, The Arrangement) as roguish homicide detective Bill Bryce.  Additional casting for the series will continue over the course of production. ‎

“It’s a great privilege to be solving fresh and intriguing mysteries with the beloved characters of Millie and Jean from the original series, teaming them up with two unique and impressive new investigators – Iris and Hailey,” added Omnifilm Entertainment partner Brian Hamilton.

The Bletchley Circle: San Francisco has also attracted an impressive slate of accomplished and celebrated Canadian directors: Gary Harvey (Murdoch Mysteries), Mike Rohl (Reign), Alexandra La Roche (The Flash), and David Frazee (Orphan Black).

“New mysteries, new places, new cast…it is exactly the right formula for the first original drama commissioned by BritBox,” stated Soumya Sriraman, President of BritBox. “Added to the equation, we have a great team of producers and writers, and I couldn’t have asked for a better combination of talent to bring new adventures to The Bletchley Circle.”

The Bletchley Circle: San Francisco is produced for BritBox and ITV by Omnifilm Entertainment in association with World Productions. The series is executive produced by: Guy Burt, the creator of the original series; World Productions’ Jake Lushington; Omnifilm Entertainment partner Brian Hamilton; and Canadian showrunner Michael MacLennan. The series will be distributed worldwide by Kew Media, who were instrumental in raising financing for the project.

The Bletchley Circle: San Francisco is set to premiere later this year on BritBox and ITV and is the first original series commissioned by BritBox.
